Good day all and Happy Thanksgiving Recovery
It has been some time for me to make any announcements or highlight changes in planetFigure since being on vacation and all
First off a warm welcome and return for Jim Patrick as our recent staff addition as USA Chief Editor and Coordinator. Jim will be handling planetFigure's Editorial needs and event coordination for various shows and clubs. Jim has been compiling a list or Clubs and Organizations through out the world and we need your support to not miss any, feel free to contact Jim here: jim @ planetfigure.com
On to the updates, we have a new header! Cleaner and leaner it will allow more visibility for the pages and will provide a way to promote seasonal events such as upcoming shows, competitions (such as what you see now, Chief 2010) and so on.
Next up is the menu navigation bar, where you see : "Forums vBench wiki Gallery Events Scaler About" this has been cleaned up and consolidated. Two new additions are the "wiki" and the "About". The "About" link explains who is who on the staff and their roles. The wiki link is planetFigures newest major addition... our very own wiki!
The planetFigure wiki or "WikiFigure" is just like the Wikipedia we all know and runs on the very same software Wikipedia does.
What is WikiFigure and what can WikiFigure do ?
Lots of things! A storehouse, dictionary, list of lists, glossary, knowledge base, FAQ's and much more. The wiki will server as a great place to house those repeat and frequently asked questions, we encounter.
It is open for anyone to add to it and to edit it.
It is completely community authored, that means if there is something you want to see in the wiki, you add it! Are you part of a club , you add it. Are you a manufacturer or run a website- you add it. I can't do it all myself and I will at times make my own submissions, but by the same token it's our community that will provide and create the content. That means no one can email me stomping and crying with clenched fists saying "How come Website or Company X is in the wiki and I'm not!" Well did you take up the pen (or keyboard) and add your club or company?
The wiki will be monitored for vandalism and malicious use. I'll be scouting for members that are web-savvy for staff opening to help with the wiki coordination.
We have been receiving more new members lately and it is great to see more youngsters getting involved. We've also seen quite a bit of variety across genres and that too is great for seeing some diversity and even though it might not be ones' own era, the skills and techniques are shared and new things are learned, and that's always a plus The alternate genres, war gaming, steam punk, video game characters are all welcome, and while the "old guard" and staunch historical folks may see these genres as invasive, keep in mind these genres are some times a "gateway genre" into other areas and can be a launchpad into the historical realm... future sculptors, future painters and future costumers and collectors. It behooves us all for the perpetuation and preservation of our art, scene and hobby to be as inclusive as possible. Today's mini war game figure painter maybe tomorrows great new historical figure painter.
Well, I'll start wrapping up I'm beginning to monologue..
Big plans are in store and we are excited to move forward in 2011 with making things better and easier to get around planetFigure.
Thank you all for your support and best wishes this holiday season!
