Daphne Tyrrell – De Tara Miniatures
In July, our very much beloved Daphne passed away. Perhaps, some of you already knew about this, but I only had notice of it recently and I have not seen any reference in PF.
She worked in the military miniature world for decades, running the company De Tara and representing a large amount of makers here in Spain. She knew very well many of the companies, sculptors and painters who regularly post in PF and that’s why I feel obligued to write these sad words to you. For those like me, who never atended, for instance, Euromilitaire, she talked about those who are, or were, behind the commercial names of makers such as Bonapartes, Poste Militaire, Mike French, The Roll Call, etc.
I know I will miss mentionning many of you, but she had always very positive words for you all. I particularly remember she always told me how nice the people from Bonaparte are and I asked her about my favourite sculptors, like Moz, Carl, Grieve… This way, she introduced all of you to the people from Santander and rest of Spain, always helping to find that OOP figure we were looking for. Personally, I could add hundreds of kind details she had with me; since I was very young she helped with my English, she offered me bargains when I was a poor student and I cannot forget the beautiful letters she addressed me while I was at sea. I always loved her and I know this is a shared feeling by all who knew her. I will miss her sense of humour (“I don’t watch soap operas anymore, but the Spanish news. It’s much funnier”), her smart mind and Irish free soul. We miss you, Daphne.
Thank you for the time we shared.
