Propaganda lies about one
shot GDR border guard...!
On the night of October 5, 1964, 57 GDR citizens fled to West Berlin through a tunnel built from the West under the Berlin Wall...:
The well-known "Stern"...
... editor Henri Nannen was responsible for the construction of the tunnel...
...financed and in return secured the exclusive rights to the expected story.
The 21-year-old non-commissioned officer of the GDR border troops Egon Schultz...
... becomes aware and tries to prevent the escape. When he fires, the escape helpers, who are equipped with pistols from West Berlin police stocks, shoot back.
Other border guards rushing towards him, mistaking Sergeant Schultz for one of the fugitives and shooting at him as well. The bullet from an AK 47 assault rifle hits Schultz fatally (heart shot).
GDR propaganda gives the dead border guard a pompous funeral, with Defense Minister Army General Hoffmann and SED deputy party chief Erich Honecker supporting the grieving mother...
...and "Young Pioneers" stand honor guard...:
Schultz's tattered uniform is on public display...
...and claims - although you know exactly what's going on! - untruthful, Schultz had been shot by the West Berlin escape helpers.
Otherwise, all means of propaganda are used: A book is being written...
... a movie is being made...
... there are postcards pulished ...
... Monuments erected...
... and even several schools are named after Egon Schultz, such as the Rostock school where Schultz worked as a teacher ...
…eine Berliner Polytechnische Oberschule, eine Hönower Schule, ein Wehrlager in Prerow, eine Unteroffiziersschule und eine Straße in Berlin (heute wieder „Strelitzer Straße“).
Im Hof des Hauses Strelitzer Straße 55 wird eine Gedenktafel angebracht – unser Bild zeigt die Enthüllung…:
Die Propagandalüge, Schultz sei von Fluchthelfern erschossen worden, wurde erst nach der deutschen Einheit aufgedeckt – und die oben gezeigte Gedenktafel gegen eine neue ausgetauscht…:
