What size and shape of brush is used in painting of 1/10 scale busts ? I can only buy a few right now and would like to start a 1/10 scale fantasy bust soon would be using it for the face . I already have a acrylic base on it . And will be using oils over it . So these will be used with oil paint.

Hi Samson, I would agree with Mark, a wide flat one is also useful for blending big areas. You cant beat WN series 7 and you can sometimes get deals online. I have a couple of Broken Toad I use for blending. Good luck!

Cheers

Thanks for the info guys . Hi mark it's funny you replied to this post I was asking because I started the first bust I bought . Right here from you it was a fantasy female bust I hope to post progress pics as I go forward

Hi ya Sampson,

As I'm on a very tight budget I get my brushes from the local $2:00 store (bear in mind I'm in New Zealand) but you should have should have something similar in your neck of the woods.Again here they come in a range of sizes so you can for example 5/0,2/0,0,2 + 3 flat.for about $6:00 NZD.
Ok their not WN quality ,but I've had no issues with them the 5/0 keeps a good point ,and I can get a couple figures/busts out before I need to replace them. I paint in Oils and enamels. They seem to suit my rough painting style. As they have very soft plastic handles thinners tends to eat into them fairly quickly (you've been warned) :nailbiting:

Hope this is of help.

Hi Samson, I use W&N Series 7 too, my go-to brushes are sizes 2, 0 and 00. A stiff synthetic flat brush (e.g. Galeria) is good for the initial base coat of oil as it gets into all the nooks and crannies and allows a very thin coat to be "scrubbed" onto the model without fear of trashing one of your expensive brushes. I also have a couple of filbert brushes (a sort of flat brush but with a point, hard to explain), from Rosemary & Co I think, which I find handy for blending.

I have a potful of brushes but most are unused as these 6 brushes cover most scenarios.

W&N number 1 is my everyday brush for 54, 75 and 90mm figures
I don't use 0 and 00 anymore since they don't hold enough paint for me.

Cheers

Alex

Thank you all for the info I will be buying a few of the sizes you have mentioned today. They will be in the w & n line but at the cheaper end lol
