What a great story and a well-deserved honor for an incredibly brave, noble man!
My brother-in-law (USAF, retired) tells the story of getting into an elevator one day while stationed in the Pentagon. He had his head down and was concentrating on some paperwork. Out of the corner of his eyes he caught a glint of gold and a blue ribbon and was shocked to find a Medal of Honor on the chest of the man standing right next to him. He says, "I didn't want to stare or look foolish, but I felt my mouth opening involuntarily and my chin dropping as I looked left, right, turned around." Eight Medal of Honor recipients were in the elevator with him. His floor arrived. He took a deep breath and said, "Gentlemen, it is an honor and a privilege to have shared an elevator with you." They all smiled pleasantly, the elevator doors closed and Bill went back to business.
all the best,
Dan
