One of Larruccia's finest sculpts, Soldiers 54mm Optio that I've depicted from the 1st Germanica Legion at the Battle of Idistavisus in 16AD. Shield design taken from Stephen Dando-Collins' excellent book "Legions of Rome".
Painted in acrylics.

Saw this on FB earlier this morning and loved it then too. (y)
Particularly fond of the tone used. the shading is subtle and not over painted. Reminds me I've got a couple of these old Soldiers Romans on the shelf, I must dig them out and bring them nearer to the front of the 'to do' list
Cheers

Stunning work on an excellent figure, need to get this one some day.
Good to see you have used shield reference from the Stephan Dando-Collins book, makes in more authentic, it's an excellent book.

Lovely figure and paint job and as you say, the Collins 'Roman Legions' book is superb. The shield you have painted is also a welcome change from the almost obligatory 'wings & bolts'.

I love this piece!

Hi Macca,
So lovely to see him all painted up & you’ve done a super job capturing attitude. His face is especially good, you gotta be proud of this fellow!
Larrucia’s figures never go out of style.

Thanks Mike, really happy with how he's turned out.
I just checked the Masterclass website and most of the one's I'm chasing are out of stock. So this is going to be a long term search
