Hi all, a bit of a departure for me and largely the result of a happy accident.
A quite magnificent (at least when unpainted) bust from MJ Miniatures. Got this pretty much as soon as it came out and was planning to get right on it. Don't know what distracted me but after minimal prep it sat on the window shelf above my painting desk for years.
When I was painting the landsknechts recently for some unaccountable reason I wiped some green acrylic wash onto the unprimed face of the bust. Whether being in the light or just a characteristic of the resin the wash soaked in giving a convincing green flesh and a quick wipe here and there brought the colour of the resin through to give the highlights,

Really enjoyed doing this. About 90% of the painting was washes directly on the raw resin.
Largely based on bone and stone technology with a tiny bit of chainmail and gold bling.
Cheers

Hahaha .... story of my modelling life that Del :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:.

I concur, it is a fabulous fantasy bust and you've done a tremendous job on it. I like it a lot.

In reply to a question, yes the bone through the hair replaces the tusks supplied which to me looked a bit too 'Shirley Temple'.
The bone was simply rolled out miliput. Allowed to nearly completely dry I pulled the roll of putty apart giving a convincing broken bone effect.
The harder skin of the putty forms the solid outer bone and the softer core putty give a decent looking spongy core.
Cheers

Hi Del

WOW !! ........certainly a departure for you but a cracking job all over ...certainly looks like you certainly enjoyed using washes

Painting of the bust spot on , bit ugly though ...lol ....nice work on the weapon and armour

Did you do anything to the actual base edges ......certainly ties in so well ith the resin

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Kevin, I picked up 10 of these years ago for £2 each at S&L, probably fom PeteWatson.
Don't know much about timber but they look like unfinished beech.
Often I stain with a mix of oil paints to mimic rsewood then wipe and wax.
This one was Burnt Siena then a spray of matt black primer, a wipe all over with wire wool through to the raw wood
along the edges then waxed.
Cheers

While the subject matter may not be my usual cup of tea, I recognise very good painting when I see it Del.
It would certainly stop me for a closer look and a chat at a show (That's now seems a dim and distant word).
I like the label, which I presume is your own construction.

Cheers,
Andrew

Cheers mate. Fingers crossed that normal service will be resumed asap.
Yep one of my own, I like to play about with plates as part of the whole process.
When all's said and done though you can't beat Paul at Nameit.
