Acrylics Paint mix - white uniform

Hi all,

Using Vallejo acrylics... what is the best mix to paint a white uniform. I assume that the base coat should not be the base white as it would be hard to highlight.

Does it make sense to start off with an off-white and move to highlight with a pure white ?

Is there a place one can find common paint combinations for base/shadows/highlights ?

Actually you can paint white that way, you just lay in the midtones and shadows then, instead of working up towards the highlights and down towards the shadows as is more normal.

You can paint white fabric in many ways, aiming for neutral greys, brownish greys, and ochre-like shading (even blues for more of a 'special effect' kind of lighting) depending on your taste and the subject matter. Many white items are really that in name only, being more ivory or off-white really, which does tend to dictate the colouring you should go for.

If you want neutral or brownish shading mixtures and you want to mix from scratch, the simplest way is to blend black with a dark brown, then add white. Generally you'll need more brown as the proportion of white in the mix increases.

Hi PD!

This how I paint white in my figures, I dont like to mix many colors and I always try to do the things simple.

Base - off white (4) + silver grey (152)
Lights - Base + white (1) last one Ivory (5)
Shadows - Base + deck tan (110)

The secret is never star with pure white.

And this is my results.
