I recently purchased a DVD on how to paint large scale figures, I was disappointed as it mainly concerned itself by showing how to use an airbrush to complete the figure. What I want is a DVD that just shows you how to use a paint brush (airbrushing in my opinion is like cheating) Can anyone point me in the right direction as I want to up my game when it comes to painting, but seem to have levelled out. Thank you.

Controversial comment! many of the top award winners use an Airbrush for much of their work. Although I am a brush painter I would love to be able to airbrush the way these guys do it is very skillful and just a different way of achieving the objective to produce miniature works of art.

Regarding DVD's the Figurines website has some great stuff that you can watch and learn from, Alan and Marion Ball also have a website with some good material.

Sorry about this hijacking of the thread. It is a friendly hijack however.

Any online tutorials or DVS´s that deals with the blending of acrylic colours when painting in the highlights and shadows?

Here is one I found pretty useful. Not the "Holy Grail" of painting DVD's (are there ever any?) but really not that bad.

You can probably find it in nearly any online figure store. Additionally, there are these YouTube videos (bare with me, the list will be a "little" long:

Hmmmm, the rest of the YouTube videos didn't appear. Not sure what I did wrong but you can see the rest under the suggestions on the side.

Carl,

There is an interesting article on the Metal Models website with some good tips on colour mixing Oils by Bruno-not a DVD but worth downloading-use google translator at the top of the MM's page for the translation from French. Cartacci's book is also a must if you haven't got it.................Keith

I don't think airbrushing is cheating ,but being from the old school it doesn't sit well with me IMO.

I probably ruffled a few feathers with my CHEATING comment, I did not mean to sound so, its just that it looks so much simpler than trying to paint with a brush and also so much quicker.

Watched the DVD by Rob (can't remember his surname) all he did was a couple of squirts on the magic airbrush and he'd finished the face.
