Hey ya'll. I've got a resin bust covered in oils with Vallejo acrylics as a base coat and Floquil gray primer under it all, and I'm needing to strip the thing back down to resin (primer if that's not possible). I was wondering if anyone has any voodoo mixes, or might there be a commercially available product that I can dip this sucker in that won't make the resin melt in my hands (I've had that happen with aircraft cockpits before.)
Thanks

I use a mild Paint Stripper that you can get at Walmart, it works well but make sure you dont leave it soaking long because then the resin will melt!

What I do is dip an old toothbrush in the can, scrubb the figure until it is clean, then the toothbrush and figure is washed in warm soapy water!

You might try Formula 409. On a test subject first... because I'm not sure if it will react badly with resin. However, it works great on plastics, even if the paint has been there for years. And..no really harnful fumes or eating of the skin.

Best Wishes
Steve

Kevin, I've always had good luck with oven cleaner. If you use it, remember to wear rubber gloves though. I've used brake fluid before too, but it will attack some resins.

To paraphrase Tom Cruise ... "Easy-Off. There is no substitute" :)

Another Easy-Off approach was shared with me by Roger Claeps, and it also involves Easy-Off: place your piece inside a zip-loc bad and spray the hell out of it with Easy-Off, and immediately seal the bag after spraying. Let it sit for 24 hours and simply scrub the piece with an old toothbrush under running hot water and everything down to the original piece will come right off. After trying this approach with 7 figures of all scales, I can attest that it works.

Cheers!

Excellent guys. Now I can get this sucker back on the road to recovery. He's got so many brush marks on his face, it looks like someone scrubed him across a cheese grater. I do appreciate it.

Hey John this Friday's meeting is at the Baca Homestead, if you and Anders are inclined to head in this direction. I posted a map in the HMSNEO chat room, but I'm sure you've been there before.
