Hello everybody .i have a question for you .iam painting the norman knight 1180 by andrea (the one sitting on some stones).i decided to paint the main cloth the first half with napoleonic blue and the second half with a mixture of orange and dark brown.which other colors should i use for the lights and shadows on each base colors (the ones mentioned before).
thank you
a starter full of questions
dimitrios :)

Demitrios, for the blue, add a turquiose color. This will bring out the true blue color. Try a Light Turquiose by Vallejo. For shadows, try a prussian blue. Just a little at a time though. Prussian blue is a VERY strong color. If you have problems with Andrea's (a dead flat) "frosting "up, try using Vallejo (a slight sheen) as this won't "frost" up. For the orange brown, try adding a yellow ochre as this is a natural high for an orange brown. At the end, add a little golden yellow. For shadows, burnt umber should do the trick. Just add it a little at a time.

Hope this helps,
Jim Patrick

Hi Dimitrios,

>Napoleonic Blue
Highlight: add a flesh colour, or white and a little of any lighter browns you might have
Shadow: add black.

For a dark blue like this (dyed with woad or indigo) the highlights will be quite dull as a rule so don't think 'blue', think blue-grey.

>orange and dark brown
Highlight: try the same as above.
Shadow: more brown first, then a touch of black for the darkest shadows.

Einion
