hi guys,

I've noticed recently that more modelers are painting webbing equipment on figures using effects that make it look like webbing (rather than just matching colour with highlight and shadow).

I was wondering if anyone has any tips or method for achieving this effect?

thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

One simple way is to apply highlights and shadows in series of lines, perpendicular to each other, instead of in an even coat. Like you would draw with a pencil. The paint needs to be slightly less thinned for this.

Another way is to shade and highlight as normal, and then paint a 'grid' over this with a thinned pale colour not much brighter than the base colour. You can make it a bit darker in shadows and lighter on highlights.

Hope this of help.

I tried the first option on my Alpine 1/16 GI; you can just see the effect on the cross belt on his back. Please see my vBench, can't post the pic here from iPad...
