Well boys and girls. Once again I was impressed to the point of doing “reviews” on another new bust release. This time it's the "Condottiero" bust from Pandora Models, Sculpted after the Da Vinci illustration shown on the box top. I ordered mine from Marco over at Best Soldiers and it showed up PROMPTLY and in perfect shape! Thanks Marco!!!!!
This is one detailed piece! I count 20 pieces of white and light gray resin in this one. I would say, it may not be for the novice modeler, but with all this detail it should yield unbelievable results! The casting is crisp and bubble free. I would guess the scale to be a good 200mm or 1/9th. The fit looks to be quite nice with most pieces being keyed with dimples for a good snug fit. I haven't removed any of the mold plugs at the time of this review, but from what I can tell, all parts seem to snuggle down into place quite nicely. The face captures the typical Leonardo scowl perfectly and the armor looks to be spot-on to the illustration. Packed in a nice sturdy red box, the parts are nestled into several zip-lock bags. There is a nice representation of the original illustration that inspires the piece on the front of the box. I would save the image of the final sculpt (I’ve included it below) if I were you, as it really shows the placement of some of the parts. There are so many, and the placement could get confusing for absent minded modelers such as myself! LOL! I’ve tried to get most angles and the important close-ups. I blue-tacked as many parts as I could together to give an idea of how this goes together straight out of the box. Notice the somewhat strange looking piece with the plinth coming from the bottom. That is the main chest piece, and as you can see, the parts (armor, head, arm, mail etc) all build up nicely around that core. Most of the small bits on sprues are filigree for the helmet and armor. Cool!
This is an impressive piece. The work really shows in the final product. This should put Pandora Models firmly on the map. It should prove to be both popular and a fun build to modelers willing to take on the challenge. I would highly recommend this kit. Give Marco a shout over at Best Soldiers, I bet he can get yours mailed out to you in a jiffy!
