Another 3D printed 1/10 scale bust from the Clay Cyanide range. Although scale is a nebulous concept when dealing with a goddess.

This is "Papatuanuku" the Maori version of Mother Nature, the goddess from whom all life flows, lover of the sky god "Ranginui". Unlike the CC Scheherezade bust this one is not a beginner piece as access to some parts of the one piece model for painting is difficult and as sculpted she has a very clumsy and overscale Moko tattoo which needs to be removed.

Colouration is personal choice there being no recognised "official" Maori imagery, I undercoated the skin with green as a base for the washes, so she retained a desaturated look to enhance the very bright reds of the Rata flowers.

Interesting subject and nicely painted, would have been great to do the full facial tattoos, not sure if the women folk had them or not but as a Goddess who is going to argue!

Cheers Simon

Thanks guys, she is a tough one to paint with all the interlocking twists of hair/vine/branch. Incredible piece of 3D design and a first rate print service though as she prints as a single piece. I guess the support framework must be something to behold.

No the full face tattoos are exclusively male. Maori women only have the Moko and they are potentially all different as each one says something about the specific wearer.
There are some full face tattoo Maori warrior busts on P&P that are incredible, I don't have the painting skills to pull something like that off. I find freehand incredibly difficult as I can't always determine where the brush tip is.

Yes I can see where that would be difficult, the Moko looks similar to what the Berber Women of North Africa have. I have plenty of tattoos, some where really rather painful but I really wouldn't like to find out just how painful the face would be. Especially traditional sharpened bone needles and a tapping stick, they do look good in miniature though.
