Lance Corporal Joshua Mark Leakey of the Parachute Regiment was recently awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry in action while deployed in Afghanistan.

Ata boy Joshua!

Having read the citation,
and his responses in interview I have to say,
what a very nice, modest and un-assuming young man.
I sincerely hope he is able to receive the correct support
Both from other veterans and specialists in the Victoria and George
Cross association.
From what I have read and heard from the mouths of other recipiants,
And indeed medal of honour winners in the US.
This award also carries with it an extraordinary burden for the Holder
In later years.
I wish him more than well, I hope he enjoys a trouble free and
Successful future career.

Only 15 VCs awarded since the end of WW2. It's not called a cross for nothing - I suspect it is one heck of a cross to bear as time goes by. Most recipients do seem to be quiet and unassuming, if not amazed to have been awarded the decoration 'For Valour' ('Pro Valore in Canada).

To me he is a humble patriot that doesn't forget his brothers, his mates. In the link that Mark provided, it mentions that he had a distant cousin that earned the Victoria Cross in WWII, although posthumously. I'm inclined to believe that humility and valor flows through Joshua's veins.

Good call there I too hope its not a cross he carries with anything other than pride
