Hi All;

Beginning this past July in the foothills outside of Calgary, Alberta, filming began on a movie which will tell the story of the battle of Passchendaele in Septemebr of 1917. It is one of those WWI stories which has become symbolic of the futility and waste that is war in general, and that war in particular. I have seen a few of the trailers on Youtube, and I am enclosing one of the blog sites put up by members of the production team. From what I've seen, this film promises to "look" as good as Saving Private Ryan. It is scheduled for release on November 11, 2008 (perfect wouldn't you agree?). Here's the site;

I'd be curious to know how this film will be received outside of Canada. Do you think, for example, that American audiences would be interested in a film that has no direct connection to American history? It worked for "Enemy at the Gates". What do you think?

How well the movie is received will ultimately depend on how good it is, however I can confidently predict that Australian and New Zealand audiences will come out to see it. We lost many, many men at Passchendale and we haven't forgotten.

Cheers

Hello
I really waited years for such a movie. As a visitor of Passchendale many time's (it's just 100 km drive) and the surrounding battelfields i was hoping that somebody will turn up with a movie off WW I.
I have the movie "all queit at the Western Front ", but it is outdated.
Just seen the trailer and it looks promising. Yes if it is here i definitely go to the movie
Hoping he is in the theaters in Holland...

Passchendale..............

Folks I can only repeat what Tony has said,...
I wonder if minds work together, I've almost finished reading "Massacre At Passchendaele"the New Zealand story, by Glyn Harper, as well as loosing family there, New Zealand lost a generation of youth mostly in the third battle,..
This book was written to pay tribute to the few who returned and the many who did not..and for younger generations to under stand why the old chaps did not talk about it....
I do hope this film dose justice to all what ever the country they came from......

Phil....
