Hello everyone.
I'm a newby in the world of Historical Miniatures and this is my first ever 54mm. This is also an experimental process as this is the first mini (or any kind of painting) I will be using oils for.

I went out to the art store and purchased two oil paints: Winsor and Newton artist oils Ivory Black and Titanium White and these will be painted on my new model.

I will be painting pegaso model's 54mm European Knight (Late 13th C.). It's an amazing model and I highly recomend it.

I will be posting my painting process here and if anyone has any suggestions or criticism please don't hesitate to speak up.

Well Jake I can't wait to see your work. I'm curious to see your version of this beautiful piece.

Hi there!

Welcome to the "sport"!!! I must say you've chosen a great piece for your first painting:well-sculpted,generaly easy,no flesh, and a "free" subject-the knight could be a Hospitaler or carry more complicated heraldry.I can't wait to see it painted by you!

I'm an acrylics fan,so I'll recomend them to you.Check Vallejo Acrylicos page for Mario Fuentes' article to find out how to use them!

I' sure you'll paint this figure again in the future to check your progress

Enjoy!
-Kostas.

I'm sorry I didn't post this earlier but I've been very busy.
I've assembled and primed the mini so far and will begin the painting process shortly (3-4 days?)

P.S.
I'd just like to clarify that this is my first ever 54MM MODEL. I've been painting for 2 years now.

Jake, That's a nice figure (I have it). What's great about it is the painter can choose to paint it fairly plain or decorative. The folds and other drapery effects also leave a lot to put paint on. Enjoy your project. :) ~Gary

Jake, I'd like to congratulate you on making the first CORRECT step. Study the picture of the figure primed carefully. You can see every single highlight and shadow on the figure. Not only that, but where they all go. While your'e painting, keep refering back to this picture. If something just doesn't look quite right, look at the picture and figure out why. I only say this because I often times make these same mistakes. Iv'e learned the figure will turn better if I just take my time and use what references I have (i.e.- a pic of the figure primed).

Enjoy your 1st 54mm figure!

I'm sorry I haven't updated this thread earlier.
I ordered around $200 worth of oils. I have recently basecoated in acrylics but I haven't taken any pictures yet.

I'm very sorry that I haven't updated this in so long. My first atempt at oils was the long drapery over the legs and my seconds (finished only hours ago) was the cloth on the chest. My first atempt at oils was awful so I am going to repaint the legs. I used indigo and titanium white for the first part and I edged it in yellow orchre. It all came out too blue and yellow. For the second time I used paynes gray and titanium white which worked great.

Thanks!
Jake
