Being a figure only modeller I'm rather ignorant of what is available in the other modelling worlds. I need to make some earrings for an American Indian I'm working on. I don't need a large array of parts. I was hoping someone could direct me to an inexpensive photo-etch set for aircraft or somesuch that would provide me with a crosshair or gunsight that would scale out to about 2 1/2" in circumference in 1/32 scale.

hi john i will ask my pal from alpenflage hobbies if he can hook me up with somthing ill let you know by tommorow night.would love to see some pics.thanks man johnny

John, Sounds like you're going to try some trade silver type earrings. The aircraft pe sets may yield some neat finds. I wonder what would be the cost to do a set. I have lots of photos and drawings of trade silver along with measurements. Although it deals with a very specialized subject, would be neat to have pe for.~Gary

Hi Bob,

Ever since AutoEtch went out of business I have been waiting for another "do it yourself" photetch system to come along and I've even looked at creating my own "in home" system. However, now that MicroMark has a system I've been curious about picking it up, but have been concerned with the quality of the photoetch produced. If you have their photoetch kit, can you expand on the quality of the kit and the photoetch items one can expect to produce with this kit?

Thanks,

Dave

Hey John
While there are tons of aircraft etch companies you might want to try Reheat Models in the U.K. Unlike most others he does entire sheets of gunsights, rudder pedals etc. and it would work out to $7-10 CDN for a set. His phone/fax is 01225 768964. Don't think he has a website, but I'm sure he would fax a price list!
Cheers
Mark

Thanks guys. I'd like the DIY option, but I'm afraid it's a little cost prohibitive.

Gary, I am making that very thing.

Mark, I'll look into Reheat. I didn't know you could get an entire sheet of gunsights.

Hi John, I'm not sure quite what earrings you're making, are these basic hoops?

I suppose that wire formed around a rod won't work... figuring the size at this scale I can see the problem. If you can't find any wire fine enough stretched sprue might work, you can certainly make it the right gauge, then heat-set it around a former. Hope you have your magnifying glass!

Check out the character's right earring in the painting. That's about what I'm after.

Ah, right, nothing like I was thinking of then! Photoetch sure does look like the only way to go, at least in anything approaching scale thickness.

That wampum belt looks great doesn't it? Big challenge at the painting stage though; actually for such a 'simple' figure there are a lot of challenging areas.

John,
Haven't been on the 'Planet for a few days, so I missed this thread. If you haven't already found something, I would suggest N scale brakewheels. I am not 100% sure about the diameter, but they should be close.

Jim,

Now why didn't I think of train parts!? That looks like what I need.

Jeff is hooking me up though. Thanks again Jeff.
