I've just come across this photo. The caption reads, "A German soldier sharing his meal with a Belgian child"

It reminded me of this,

so perhaps an idea for a sculptor.

The other face of war, maybe an inspiration for a future project!
Thank you Roger also for the link above, i missed it and it is an excellent project!!!

I can’t help but wonder if it’s an early example of photography being used as propaganda? The other side of the coin is the recorded looting and execution of civilians by some units at this time. Then again this too could be propaganda... truth really is the first casualty of war.

I think, he's member of mounted German (Prussian) Guards Field artillery.

Cheers

That also crossed my mind Martin, or perhaps Guard artillery train. (y)
Then that would mean the coloured band of the Kratzchen is wrong but that could be put down as mistake by the whoever colourized the photo. Assuming of course it is colourized and not an actual colour photo.

Has something happened to your images, Roger? I see only a leading image tag-"" and no image or closing image tag, in each of your posts. Except for your post with the illustration of the uniforms. I can see that one, but not the others.

Prost!
