Historical Note:
Founded by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907, scouting is a world-wide youth
movement aiming at supporting young people in their physical, mental and
spiritual development.
The intent of the Scout uniform is to hide all
differences of social standing in a country and making for equality.
Distinctive uniform insignia include the fleur-de-lis as well as merit
badges and other patches.

The famous illustrator Norman Rockwell had an enormous influence to
popularize scouting in the US with his paintings. Every year but two from
1925 through 1976, Norman Rockwell did a painting for the annual Boy Scout
calendar published by Brown & Bigelow. Each painting presented an image of
idealized Scouts in worthy action, and always with meticulously accurate
uniforms and equipment. By 1929, the Boy Scout calendar was the most popular
in America, and it remained so for many years. The PiLiPiLi bust is loosely
based on Rockwell's idealized vision.

Thanks for the review Guy,

As someone whose been involved in Scouting since 1978, both as a youth member and a leader, I must congratulate Quang for bringing this bust out in the year of the centenary of scouting.

Quang, Great idea for a bust. The face is great. For those that have an interest in the Civil War there is a way to connect the two.

At the request of the Pennsylvania State Commission, four troops of Boy Scouts from the York/Adams area were selected to serve during the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. All were in complete uniform including a special blue and gray neckerchief, with official duties that included: serving in a first-aid station, assisting motor police in handling traffic, messenger and orderly service, and more.

The painting is called "Passing the troch" by Historical artist Rick Reeves.

Very different! I like it! The Khakis could be tricky!

For a great film (IMHO) check out FOLLOW ME BOYS with Fred MacMurray, Vera Miles and a young Kurt Russel (circa 1966) which I believe is out on DVD now.

Nice bust!

Kevin: Concerning boy scouts in films, there's of course the young Indiana Jones played by River Phoenix in the Last Crusade movie.

Gary: It would be an excellent idea indeed to paint the bust in the 'special' uniform. It would be equally interesting to depict the different uniforms used in various countries and periods. Adding the various insignia and badges of merit would not be too difficult.

Thank you all for your comments :)

While at EuroMilitaire, I bought two of these fine busts as presents for my two nephews who are in the local boy scouts :)
I wanted to buy them asa I "discovered" them in Girona, but the bust was not available yet so I had to wait  but it was a worthy wait believe me as they are superbly sculpted and got my nephews eager to get them ready in "OUR UNIFORM COLOURS" :)

Welldone Quang!!

Ray ;)
