planetFigure is starting off a Kit of the Year recognition award for best production figure, we encourage you to post your submissions in the "planetFigure Figure of the Year" forum.

At the close of voting, we will announce the FotY winner and awards will go to the manufacturer, the sculptor and box artist.

A few guidelines:

We ask that each submission is it's own thread and not in the replies to others submissions as it will be easier to tally the submissions.

Choose your thread titles carefully to reflect your submission.

Thank you all!

Gordy,

As the pF FoTY competition is due to close shortly, I wondered if ,in the future, it needs to be renamed.

"Figure of the Year" doesn't accurately reflect what this award is intended to celebrate.

This competition is really trying to recognise the best new release commercial figure kit of the year, rather than the best overall figure of the year.

If we take "Figure of the Year" literally; it would include the best figure completed during the year, regardless of what year the kit was released or even if it was a commercial release.

I was also wondering if the award could be named in honour of one of Planet Figure's recently deceased great commercial sculptors and painters and great blokes, Roy Hunt.

I'd like to propose that in future the Planet Figure FoTY award be called the Roy Hunt Trophy for the Best New Release Figure Kit of the Year.

Oh boy.. sorry the ball is already rolling for this award and system it is to recognize a commerical release during the past year honouring the manufacturer, sculptor and box artist, an "Academy award of sorts" and award for the people behind the great new releases whose who don't get the medals and awards like their customers do at shows with their products ;)

The name.. kinda boxed in here... sorry it has to stay, now I'll look like a chump for wanting to keep the name the way it is :(

Not at all Gordy. I have no problem with you keeping it as it is.

I certainly agree with the concept of honoring the manufacturers, the sculptors and the box artists with an award. They certainly deserve some recognition and encouragement.

Perhaps then you might consider creating a new award, open to any member of pF who posts pics of any figure they made themselves, that is judged by the members of pF to be the best figure made during the year.

To follow your Academy Award analogy, if the current FoTY Award is like the Best Picture award, and is given to the producers of the movie (in this case the manufacturer, the sculptor and the box artist), this new one could be the Academy Award for Best Director (which is the person who built and painted the figure).

It would be open to scratch builders, converters and Out-Of-Boxers, commercial and non-commercial sculptors and painters alike. The figure could be a new release or it could be a 20 year old kit. The only consideration is that the kit had to be completed during the calendar year and that it had to be the work of just one person.

Other than that, the fewer rules and regulations the better.

What do you think?
