Bought some new brushes yesterday ,away from my usual series 7 WN size 0

Namely Da Vinci Nr 2 , looked promising in the shop with what looked like a nice fine point for detailing , but turned out to be absolute crap with the point flaring out so now relegated to blending only , should have known better after 50 years of modelling ; the price should have alerted me .

Also got a couple of their masterstroke chisel flats , every bit as naff too.

I'm sure I did read somewhere that W & N aren't as good as they were.

For 'work horse' brushes, I've been using Monty's Miniature - and I cannot fault them.

One thing's for sure. A good brush won't make you a good painter. But you'll never be a good painter with poor brushes.

Like Marc I've been using Rosemary and Co brushes alongside W&N 7's as general brushes. I prefer the slightly thicker handle on the W&N, but they are both excellent and the Rosemary & Co ones are considerably cheaper (y) For the detail work I still prefer my Broken Toad No1's which I use for eyeballs and very fine line work - shame they've stopped making them although I noted that they are now producing a new range which I'd be keen to try . . .

Pro Arte...

Often buy new ones just for the sake of it.

As for size anything from 10/0 to 2, favourite size is a 0 though.... long or short handle.

Love variety..
