Hello,

I'm about to paint Ray Lamb's 90mm French Dragoon. In the August 1976 edition of Military Modelling, Graham Bickerton said he undercoated a "light colour paint". I was wondering if someone could help me and point me in the direction of the paint Graham used. I'm thinking it must of been Humbrol Enanmel Sand 63. Since in the 70s modeller used enamels. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Donald.

Hi Donald,

If you read the full article, Graham states that he undercoated the horse with thin matt white spray coats until he achieved a smooth white surface (p. 488). He then went on to paint in oils, describing the mixes that he used.

Cheers,
Andrew

I have this one in the display cabinet, built and painted in the colours of the 22nd Reg after seeing the article above, a joy to paint.

Hello Barry,

I did paint the figurine myself about a year ago, but suddenly realized I had painted the horse the wrong colour. French Dragoon's rode bay horses the were sandy in colour. I stripped the paint off the horse and I'm going to paint it the colour Graham Bickerton as done in the 1976 Military Modelling Magazine. I'm trying to find reference works on bay horses. Any help would be very much appreciated.

PS Bary, nicely painted.
