Hi folks, I’ve done a search and couldn’t find much that helped with this question: how do you prep metal figures to paint?

I’ve done a couple and really struggle with this. My usual method is to give the figure a wash and prime with a spray can as this seems to create a more durable finish but even so the primer seems to rub off really easily, taking any further paint layers with it. I don’t have this issue (as much) with resin figures.

Does anyone have any suggestions for really tough primers for metal figures that won’t rub off?

TIA

That's one (of a few) reasons why I hardly ever touch metal figures these days. The paint rubs off much more readily than it does on resin, and it only takes the gentlest of knocks for paint to chip off and reveal a spot of bright shiny metal that needs touching up and blending in.

I've still got quite a few metal figures in the stash, but rarely consider painting one any more and I can't even remember the last time I bought one.
