Hello, I have finally gotten excited about modeling again since coming to this site and need some help. I have several figures sitting built wainting for paint. I never bothered to prime my figs but decided it was time to start. I used Tamiya Primer very nice stuff a bit expensive but nice. The question is how long should it dry before I start painting? Thanks for the help and motivation :) Brock

Hey Brock,

I use white Krylon spray-on primer & usually give that about 24 hours to dry. I'm not sure if it really needs that much time but it sounds like a good round number & I haven't yet had any primer problems.

Brock-

I used to use white spray primer from Home Depot. Was OK, but Tamiya beats it hands down. For some reason it sprays very nice and paint reacts well with it- meaning it sticks. I let it dry 24 hrs. However, I have pushed it and topcoated with acylics in about 8 hrs. I just feel better letting set for at least 24.

Did you get the barrel??

Matt

Brock, I used to use Citadel's white primer but it's not avilable anymore over here. Now I use Tamiya's primer. Not as good but not bad. But i do dry it in the crockpot.

Welcome Brock

I used first an automotive primer, from a giant shop, very cheap. I let it dry for 48 hours.
Some people who painted for almost a century told me this primer was to smooth, the paint bite on it.
So i bought a very good automotive primer cost's two times the first. It was a lot better but not so good as what i thought it should be.
Now i am using only CITADEL primer. For me it is the best that i can get.
The paint really hold on it, you don't need to do two coats, so 24 hours drying time is enough.
