Ron, I primed all my figures using airbrush with XF19 Sky Grey from Tamiya and I like very much.
The aerosol from Tamiya is also very good.

Cheers

I use tamiya aerosol also ; but looking for a much finer spray for my air brush the XF19 sounds interesting does it go straight on to metal .

Ron

Yes Ron, should not be a problem. I thinned the paint with alcool.
Pedro.

You can thin the paint with windscreencleaner for the car. It is isopropyl that you need for the Tamiya paints.
Tamiy sells the same stuff under the name thinner X-20A but that is to expensive.

Another vote for Vallejo Surface Primer.

Very fine, and a super finish.

Not sure about spraying Tamiya straight onto metal... Generally you need to prime for Acrylics.

As Megroot says, the Tamiya thinner (X20A) is basically Isopropyl with a bit of Flow Retarder added.

All my figures are primed with using airbrush with Tamiya straight onto metal and the result is quite satisfactory.
For me is better than surface primer because is cheaper.

Do you paint in oils or Acrylics Pedro ,does the Tamiya not rub off easy if touched

It shouldn't be a problem using acrylics on metal without priming-the reason for priming with oils is to stop the carriers/spirits reacting with the metal over time. I know of at least one top UK painter who uses acrylics and has never primed beforehand without ever having a problem.

Had that happen to a figure once Keith : skimped on the primmer on the metal base and it eventually got some sort of efflorescence coming thru and lifting the paint .
Interesting to here a no primer view I thought acrylics would just puddle up on bare metal ,great idea if it works as less paint more detail , I will try that on one of the prisoners in the grey army who is serving a life sentence ,if it works he might even get a pardon or repatriated to England when we get independence

hi ron
i airbrush modelmaster flat white thinned with distilled turpentine it goes through the airbrush very nicely two or three fine coats does a nice job my experience of vallejo primer is it doesn't adhere to white metal very well

Humbrol white by airbrush, works fine for me and give a nice matt base.

The humbrol seems to take the oil so generally the finish is pretty matt but I still varnish
