I have read about modelers using printers inks for silver and gold and noticed them for sale on the Michael-Roberts site.
Could someone tell me what the advantages of using those has?are they better than paint? thx

Grizz-

I have posted about printers inks on a couple of other threads here. I can send you a basic paragraph that gives you the boiler plate info. Let me know.

For me, I have not had good results using acrylic metals. I get them too runny or too thick and too many brush strokes. Probably my lousy technique :(

I like humbrol enamels and have added them to oils too. ie gold to burnt umber makes a nice brass.

Printers inks can be added to oils, too. Or, you can add them to Humbrol gloss or Liquin as a carrier. Add one or two drops of cobalt drier. If you don't add the drier it won't.... well.... dry!

Like the other metallics, caution is needed when painting because if you get some where it shouldn't be it is impossible to get off or cover up.

Many people just like to use the printers ink for buttons, braid, etc. and use the Gunze Sangyo metals for larger areas.

Printers ink tends to be easliy scratched or damaged too.

I have the Micahel Roberts inks, too.

Good luck!

Keith
