I was wondering what primer to use with the vinyl type plastic used by Italeri in its 1/32 Historics range.

I've washed the figures first with powder detergent. Dried them and sprayed enamel primer. Still it gets removed.

I used to use thinned down white PVA glue to coat vinyl figures ( old Airfix OO scale ones). It worked ok but if the figures were handled a lot the paint sometime came off.

If you are asaying that the primer does not stick - it beads up - I have solved this problem by applying a coat of very watered-down Elmers white glue. When that dries, use any primer.

If your problem is that paint comes off in handling the figures - gaming etc., then you probably need to seal your paint work after the figure is complete. Any one of the clear, flat (or gloss, if you like) sealers, such as Testor's Dull Coat or Tamaya's Flat coat will do the trick.

Good luck.

If you are in the States, the spray paint companies have released a paint which is designed for plastics including polyethylene. It bonds with the plastic and allows plastic figures to be painted permanently. Krylon markets theirs as "Fusion". I have primed with this and then painted Italaeri 1/72 figures in acrylic and the paint will not come off regardless of handling. I tested by twisting and bending sword blades and muskets and there is no flaking or chipping.--Steve Scott
