Hi guys,

Just got my hands on some Vallejo transparent colours namely smoke, wood grain and natural wood grain

Having looked at them they are still very thick, not very transparent.

Does anyone have any tips for using these as was planning on using smoke for pin wash and deep shadows

Any help would be great

I'm using them pretty diluted. Consistency of a wash. I like the smoke effect on worn leathers and wood. I apply a glaze of smoke over the painted surface. Brings everything together. Leaves a satin finish vs. Tamiya smoke which has a semi gloss or gloss finish. I found Tamiya smoke very effective on medieval and ancient armour pieces. Much more effective then the Vallejo smoke.
Cheers,
Zeno

I have painted rough thin dark brown lines on the yellow.
Then built up the woodgrain, in about 10 very thin layers.
You can achieve highs and lows adding more to the darker areas,
leaving the yellow showing through more for the highs.(y)
