Some time ago I read a post stating that the rifles supplied in the DML Union infantry kit were no good. What do you replace them with? All I have are some old Cavalier castings.

I don't know why they are "no good", except for styrene tends to bend. They are the standard Springfields most figures come with. You have many options to replace them though. Top of the list for me is Minie Ball miniatures release of Austrian Lorenz muskets, which is a refreshing alternative. Wolf miniatures has two sets of American Civil War long arms including the Springfield; Shenandoah offers a set of Springfields, and there are more, all of which are much superior(my opinion) to the kit piece. Red Lancers or Sentinel Miniatures or any decent retailer who handles figures will help with acquiring them. Good luck.--Steve Scott

Hey, Michael Roberts Ltd also has an Austrian Lorenz and M1842. The Shenandoa Miniatures rifles are okay, though the castings could have been a rough.~Gary

Hi Gary,
Mike has yet to release these Austrian Lorenz muskets (hopefully soon). Minie Ball does not make this product, although the rifles they do have (mostly carbines plus a converted 1841 Springfield musket) are well sculpted with good quality casting.
Regarding the sculptor of the Michael Roberts Austrian Lorenz gun, I'm hoping he adds a compatible bayonet (whoever that sculptor may be!)
Regards
