1914 British 42nd Black Watch Highlanders, Advancing Set #1 Battle of Mons, 1914
RETIRED. Sold out six years ago. hard to find. Soldiers are in perfect condition. Two boxes have a de coloration of unknown origin but the figures are impeccable.I took the out only for photographing.
The Opening Moves 500 limited edition worldwide was the first figures in the new range of matte painted true to life colors figures showcasing the First World War. The focus was the fight in Mons and Charleroi September 1914 for which Britins released sets of British French and German figures depicting the early war uniforms and particular actions of the opening phase of the war, the war of maneuvering and outmaneuvering that preceded the static stalemated war of attrition of trench warfare.
The early British Exeditionary Force, both regularly uniformed and the Scottish Highlanders of the Black Watch Regiment , was portrayed during the legendary fighting withdrawal of the BEF from Belgium facing overwhelming German forces intended to reach the Channel Coast. The comparatively small professional force of regulars wore down the invading Germans slowing and eventually stopping them.
The first two sets sets represent the famous firing lines of the BEF established on different places to hold the Germans, in particular the 4th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, and the third set, men of the Black Watch advancing, represents the maneuvering elements of British infantry advancing supported by the fire from a firing line to outflank and break the German attack.
