Muy bueno, Alex. Si acaso, desde mi punto de vista, el uniforme tira un poco hacia lo claro. Es una figura a la que le tengo puesto el ojo, así que ya tengo referencias!
Saludos!

Very good, Alex. Perhaps, the uniform's shade must be a little darker, for my taste. I have my eyes on thsi figure, so I have now a good reference!
Regards
Javier

Thanks Alex.

Always a pleasure to work with you. This figure will be in the cabinet at Euro Militaire for anyone coming along to look at or photograph, along with the Petty Officer that Alex has also shown on PF in the past. (y)

Hi Iguazzu,
This is a well painted figure and I really like your painting style.
However like Javier I am surprised that the blue that several people on PF use for Royal Navy uniforms is incorrect.
From my perspective; For this colour I use (oil paint) Indigo as the base colour darkened with lamp black for shadows and lightened to the base colour you have used as my highlight. The uniform colour in my Avatar is the shade the Royal Navy uniform should be.
Hope that this is of some help and guiedance.

Cheers,
Keith

Hi all!

Thanks for your replies. I'm very happy for that :)

@Osebor and @Wings5797: I understand what you said, but I'm not agree... well or at least I'v other (my own) reasons (I can't speak for other painters) to use that blue and not a more real navy blue. The real navy blue is nearest from the balck than the blue; and for my painting style, as you know, I use a real great contrast between lights and shadows to create the volumes and the atmosphere. So if I use a real darker base, most of people could think "ok, this is black, not blue".
As you say, I can use a blue color to get a lights, but I'll find two problems. The first one is that, due the dark base that I used, I should add just a little bit of blue to don't broke the layering and I'll never get the contrast that I ussually am looking for (but if you use a flat style or an "without too much contrast" style, you won't find this problem.... but for my style is a real problem). The other reason is that most of people are in the habit to see the black highlighted with blue, this people (most of us) will think that it's a black, not a blue.

I really apreciate your comments and I don't want to justifie myself, just to explain that it's a decission more artistic intead realistic. I could paint it more realistic and I'll read a lot of comments like "it's too flat", "you need more contrast" "that uniform is blue and not black", and similars  So I preffer to get an artistic finish. And I really understand what you said!

Again, thanks for comment!

:)

Very nice paintwork.
I also had some problems with the very dark blue (almost black) and I can only say that you have a point there.
Again, the paintwork on this figure is outstanding.

Nice paint job and nice groundwork too. I think the smaller the figure the lighter the blue must be. While this could have been darker and looked nice, I think its sufficiently dark to look good. I have seen some navy blues rendered as almost a royal blue and that does look strange.

Of course I understand your point and, as others said, is your work and your choice. No need to justify, after all, we are here to contrast opinions and to learn (some of us -me as example- a lot more of the learning stuff ...

Lo dicho, bonito trabajo y todo un ejemplo!

Saludos
