Really expensive models - have you splurged?

I notice Andrea in particular has a line of fabulous equestrian models, many of them in the $300-plus range. Has anyone invested that much in a model?
I'm going to try a mounted figure soon as I'm much better at painting horses than people, but the budget says to stick with a smaller one for now.
I'd be delighted to see photos if you've done one.

Those must be 90mm figs... I just received 75mm Red Lancer 1815 from Pegaso, came in at about $160 Cdn. Beautiful piece, pretty big! It'll be the first horse I will have painted at that scale.

Most 54mm mounted figs are under $100 Cdn. There's way more to choose from at this scale as well.

I got Andrea's 90mm mounted French Hussar as a gift for the holidays. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures to share. I haven't started painting it yet. I'm waiting for time and to improve my skills a little more. But I will say it looks like a very well done kit and a fun action pose. The sculpting is great. They've placed a steel rod through the legs so the horse won't sag over time. And all the horse straps, bridles, etc come flat so you bend them into place... should make for very nice fits. Yes, it's expensive but you do get a high quality kit. I'll try to post a review when I get the chance.

In the meantime, here's a mounted figure I posted a few months back. This one is from Pegaso... but the same scale as the Andrea ones.

I have not. I think the most I've spent on a new figure was however much the 54mm Bosniak officer cost, when I bought it from Chuck at the APG's Gettysburg show the other summer. What was that--$50 to $70? Can't remember. I buy a lot of my figures second-hand, on eBay and at shows, because I'm cheap, er, ah, frugal ;D

Ah, well, I think I paid over $100 for the Rylit pair, a Prussian dragoon and a sutleress from the Seven Years War (see my gallery). But that was on eBay, the auction adrenaline was flowing, and I had to have that figure.

The last 90mm+ mounted figure I painted was 13 years ago when the still cost 150-200 dollars. I have a few on my "want" list but until I hit the lotto I won't be buying them anytime soon. Thank goodness I went to 54mm when I started painting again. The price of everything went up years ago but at leasr i can rationalize the cost of the little guys more than the big ones.

Sorry, I goofed...it was Pegaso's mounted Crusader I was thinking of...Andrea has that awesome stagecoach scene for almost $500...but you guys are right, I think most are 90mm that run that much.

I can't think of any one particular model that I spent a lot on. I got Andrea's Custer's last stand for $90.00 including shipping. If I had the money, I would like to get Andrea's take on Ben-Hur's chariot, ($400+) I haven't painted figures very long but I thought I would try to paint more than buy this year.:lol: I'm 24 days into this year and I am already feeling the need to recruit more members into the grey army.

my most expensive model is narins "hellbreed" kit. at above $400 this hurt the bank account!

kind of interesting seeing prices for sizes of kits.... the narin kit is a huge 1/6!

The most expensive military figure is Andreas Ramesis II Chariot shown in my gallery, great kit but took me a few goes at painting it as I really wanted to get it right. I also have a few large Fantasy figures ranging in the $200-$300 mark. The most expensive model (but not a figure) is Jacques Cousteau"s Calypso boat by Billings Boats at approx $600 (still only half done for a few years now). Most of these were bought when I was a batchelor I must admit. The Kits these days that I buy are a lot less!!!!!

I paid 190 pounds for The genuine boxed 200mm Kirin German mg Gunner. (Don't tell the wife.) In fact I bought two of them and sold the other one for a tidy profit. I saw the figure years ago when I did tanks and not figures and thought WOW! I'd love to own this fella. Took me ages to find him and then pluck up enough courage to paint him.

I think it was probably worth it in the weight in resin on it's own!
