Hi all
I am after some really fine/delicate saws.
I usually use Zona and Xacto types, but they are not really that fine for what I am needing them for.
Anyone got any recommendations?

Jon

Well I need to do some conversion work, these are 28mm plastic and whitemetal figures.
All my saws that I use for 1/35th+ are bit rough and ready for these to be honest.

I'd use a cutting disk on a Dremel if you have one. Or try Maplins I bought a boxed knife set which has a fairly fine saw blade in it

Hi Jon,

Steve is right the best tool for this is a saw piercing frame (jewellers saw)! I have been using a piercing frame for many, many years!
There is a large variety of blades available including very, very fine!
They are not easy to use, but with practice they become easier. It's very important to Remember though!!!!
You need to use a bench peg, the blade goes in backwards (you cut on the downward stroke)!!! and you move the saw up and down and you move the job, Not the saw!

Once you have mastered this, it will be the best saw you will buy! You will never need another!

I hope this helps!

If you had any razorblades in the house you can make yourself a fine saw that works quite well for shallower or shorter cuts (both single-edged and the deadly double-edged razors work for this but the latter are thinner so give finer cuts).

But in terms of a commercial product one of the etched stainless blades, as in JonP's post above, are maybe your best bet. Only issue with those ones specifically is that they're mounted into a Swann-Morton handle. Other options of this type:

Piercing saws are great but I think overkill for what you need at the moment.

Thanks for the links guys.
I think I am gonna go with the RB type of PE saws, as they fit into a knife handle with seems a bit easier to handle with these small figures, I have the other types linked and they are a bit too cumbersome for this job.
Thanks once again
Jon
