Well after about 8 years of service, my trusty Dremel Stylus has packed up. I think it's the battery, as it just won't hold its charge any more. And replacement batteries no longer appear to be available either.

It is the only hobby drill I have ever used, so I thought I'd just get myself a replacement - only to find that this very light and ergonomic piece of kit is no longer available except at a rather hefty 95 quid from Japan.

So before I rush in and buy a cheaper alternative or bite the bullet and pony up the best part of a ton, I thought I would ask if anyone can recommend a good alternative.

None of the current Dremels look anything like as comfortable to hold, and I'm wary of buying cheap no-name stuff because I've found in the past to my cost (cheap compressor) that this can be very much false economy.

Any suggestions?

Hi Steve,
I would recommend the Aldi Workzone 135W Combi Tool. They are cheap only about £12.00, mains powered, very robust, variable speed, you can get lots of accessories for them and a 3 year guarantee. If Aldi don't have them search for the Workzone 135W Combi Tool, someone else will sell them.
cheers

Thanks for that Richie, I'll see if I can track one down. Certainly worth a punt at only £12.00.

Nothing available in Aldi at the moment, so I bit the bullet and bought a Dremel 3000 from Homebase for 30 quid. Will definitely keep an eye out in Aldi though because Aldi do some good stuff and it doesn't hurt to have a spare. Especially not for the sake of 12 notes.

Steve if you're worried about the bulkiness of the Dremel and it being uncomfortable to hold you can buy one of these which I can recommend......

Simply attaches to your Dremel, and you only have to hold the end piece which is as you can see much smaller than the main unit.
