Hello,
I guess I should start with an introduction. My name is Jeff. I am a recently retired Marine who now lives and works in Chile. I am one of the many "lurkers" who has learned much from this site and appreciate its contributors. I hope to someday that I may be of assistance too. My primary interest lies in the Napoleonic era, but I also have an interests in the SYW and Roman periods. I can "paint between the lines" and understand the concepts of shading and highlighting if not always able to execute to my satisfaction.
My post today is in regards to some help needed in a research project. Leaving and working in Chile I have acquired a "not too polished" knowledge of Spanish and this has opened up a whole new world of information to me. I have begun to reread Oman's Peninsular War with a whole new perspective as I can flush it out with Spanish sources. Reading Spanish is still a chore, but with a little time and a couple bottles of wine anything is possible. This has led to my interest in some of the opening campaigns of the Peninsular War, more specifically Blake's initial campaign of 1808. I am starting to acquire a credible library of sources but need some assistance in two areas. The first is a list of some good used book stores in Spain that stock military and history works. I have acquired a fair list through bibliography, alibris, abe etc., but feel I am probably missing some of the smaller "mom and pop" stores.
I am also trying to find a source for Researching & Dragona magazine. It was a Spanish language magazine that was published between 1992 and 2005(?) on a variety of Spanish military themes. I am specifically looking for the Jan 1992 issue that has an article on the battle of Medina del RioSeco. I am planning a short trip to Spain soon and plan on splitting my time between the bookstores, museums and battlefields and of course an occasional stop at the local wateringholes.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance and if I may ever be able to assist please don't hesitate to ask.
Best Regards,
Jeff
