A question that somebody may be able to help with.

I can't help but notice how high the quality is for resin figures these days.

I was wondering if there's been a revolution in the casting or manufacturing process that has allowed this?

Compare a resin figure from today to one from, say 15 years ago and the difference is quite stark in terms of the sheer quality. The material feels better and the sharpness of the detail afforded is unreal.

Any ideas?

Only thing i can add is a lot of pieces are now 3D printed . Sorry can’t elaborate on this as i dont sculpt or understand the process .

the full process of real 3D
1 taking model with a 3D scan
2 reworking with 3D software
3 printing each pieces with a 3D printer

t0 my knowledge only 1 maker do the 3 steps ( I don't thing "1" can be counted as "a lot");) this one is : http://reedoak.com/

some make a sculpure ( standard, scan, correct with 3D, print a master, make a mould and edit cast with the mould
some scan a real person, print a master, make a mould and cast ...
some design completely with software; make a mould and cast ...
some only pretend.. and produce the usual way

How to be sure they produce with a 3D Printer ?
Simple they propose exactly the same figure in many sizes, even the size you wish on demand
