RM's Sassanid horseman shield design (?)

I now have Romeo Model's Sassanid Horseman on the bench, and i've been lookin' at the shield design on the boxart, and surely its wrong! This is a Byzantine design.
This cannot be a shield he's filched on the battlefield either, 'cos its a Persian shield reinforced likewise.
What do you guys think?

The shield can be painted in one color , without the Byzantine pattern of the boxart , which is not correct . The radial reinforcements wont let you paint any other complicated pattern, causethis is what would happenin reality !!!!
