I received a package today from Seil with several Seil Model figures and decided to do kit reviews for them. The first is the Roman Archer.

Roman Archer 1AD

An Auxiliary Archer of Rome ( Roman Imperial times ) -

Even in the early Republic the Roman army had supplemented its strength with auxiliary troops. The best known early auxiliaries were archers from Crete, and slingers from the Balearic Islands.
This auxiliary archer, probably recruited from an Eastern province as suggested by his conical helmet.

SH54014
54mm white metal
9parts
string of thread – bowstring
lead foil – quiver belt
Sculpted by Yury Serebryakov
Painted by Kim Man Jin

As in the past, Seil has some of the finest packaging I have seen with a foam pad on the bottom and the parts to the kits sandwiched between the bottom and top foam. It comes in a hard black box with a color-guide sleeve around it.

This kit is comprised of 9 white metal parts with an additional package of string for the bow and lead foil for the quiver strap to go around his shoulder. All parts have minimal flash and seam lines and will clean up quickly.

This picture shows the figure setting on the white metal base with the head and right arm in place.

This picture shows the detail sculpted into the armor and the folds on his tunic.

In conclusion I would highly recommend this kit.

Thanks Guy for the review and photos, I like the figure but because is a new Company I was a little bit afraid, but with the photos on your post there is good quality in casting and packing.

Many thanks for the help, I would try to get one too of this great-looking work.

Hello Guy,
One question, Does the arrow (being fired) come with the kit?
I didn't see it listed as one of the parts.

I have communicated with some of their sculpters and sworn to secrecy but Costas is right....many good surprises comming from Seil

Guy, the subject of your review remembers me a book I read recently, Greek Fire, Poison Arrows and Scorpion Bombs, by Adrienne Mayor, a very interesting book about biological and chemical warfare in the ancient world.
There is a chapter ("Alexander the Great and the arrows of doom") dedicated to the poisoned arrows. It seems that the Scythians (from the Central Asia) were the most known and dreadful archers, using the most painful and deadly kind of poision on his arrows.
After reading that book, I can assure you that seeing an archer throwing his arrows will be considered under a different perspective..., in a word, psychological war is not a modern discovery. I wonder about the feeling of the enemies when seeing such archers on the battlefield.
