Another great figure of the Great War !
Alpini are perhaps the best Italian Troops, and one's of the best Mountain Troops of the world (with French Chasseur Alpin)
he Alpini, unlike the other corps subjected to a multi regional enrollment, were enrolled in the Alpine districts that framed young people from the same area. This encouraged team spirit and camaraderie of mountain troops. The Alpini battalions that formed the army of line bore the name of an Alpine resort, the mountain battalions, such as Monte Argentera or Monte Berico constituted the second line, or the militia mobile, the third line, or territorial militia take the name from the mountain's vallley, like Val Dora or Val Varaita.
At the outbreak of war the alpine regiments were reinforced with the Monte's battalion and after with the Valley. During the war, worked eight alpine regiments, often grouped into larger units. The mountain troop was the corps that had the highest percentage of losses in relation to the number of enlisted men.
A: mountain artilleryman -
He is dressed like an Alpino, but the black flashes, piped of yellow, are those of artillery, and he wear just one double pouche.
B: Alpino 3rd Regiment, Battalion Exilles - 1915
The tassel green, that hold the black feather means that the alpino belongs to the third battalion of his regiment, the number 31 written on the black rectangle sewn on straps holder straps pointing his company affiliation, which was the first company of the battalion Exilles. The mountain still bears the feather in his hat because in 1915 it was still allowed to use.
At the beginning of the war the 3rd regiment was deployed on the front Giulio- Giulian Alp.
On the night of June 16, 1915 the Exilles wrote one of the most heroic pages of the war by winning the 2245 metres portion of the Monte Nero -Black Mountain- jointly with the battalion Susa.
