Exactly. Try holding your arm in that position. Then put something heavy in it, such as a telescope you may have just lying around.
That must be one of the most unnatural arm positions I've ever seen. It could be the angle of the photo. But I doubt it.

Both nice sculpts but agree that the arm looks very wrong and the paint is too green on the RN officer - real pity as the rest of the figure is very nice.

If the left hand isn't sculpted onto the telescope body then it should be a pretty simple fix.
Turn the hand round an 'clamp' the fingers and tumb round the telescope.
Even if it's fitted just cut the scope at the joint and reverse it along with the hand, cutting off the brass rim and fixing it back on to what will be the new end.

Shouldn't have to though
