Fantastic brush work. I really like the hair shading and the epaulets. Always wanted to do this one and your version may just provide the push I need to order one up.

Hi Gus

Now that is nice. Have this in my grey army and your version has reminded me how nice this "Young's bust" is.

Well done.

Peter.

Gus, while I admire your brushwork, I must say that the overall effect doesn't look very realistic to me. The extreme contrasts in the skin tones are over the top in my opinion, especially around the eyes. The skin colours vary from deep reds to white but they don't seem to blend together which means there is a lack of mid tones. I hope you don't mind me saying this, as I'm trying to offer some honest and constructive comments.

Gus:

Nice one, mate. I passed on this popular/classic bust at the MMSI show last year and I'm still kicking my self. I particularly like the effect you've achieved with the waistcoat.(y)

I see what you're saying Tony, in fact, I thought the jacket could use some deeper shading but I think it may well be down to the photography. There is a well known acrylic painter here in North America who I am a great admirer of. When his work is posted on line, his transitions are almost non-existent, quite stark. However, they are quite different to the eye under competition lighting.

Cheers

Paul
