I've always been fond of Tex and I continue to read. In a recent story I read of the Mexican Rurales. The rurales were born as border police time and contain the incursions of Apache and Yaqui, also held a police action along the territories of Chihuahua with the task of repression of peasant revolts and the elimination of gangs bandidos, who infested those territories . The soldiers were recruited mainly among the peons (Mexican peasants) who saw this job opportunity with which to redeem (from Wikipedia).

But the photos do not match the authentic cartoon Tex. Of course it is always comic, but I was wondering why those designed not correspond to reality. What reason can there be uniform or have taken a very different type from reality? Yet Bonelli has complied with the very types of the West.
So: either rurales designed by Aurelio Galeppini (Galep) are not rurales, or they are, but I have not found the uniforms match. It may be, however, the Mexican army.

Now this is speculation on my part. Perhaps because they look very much like Villistas or even common vaqueros only heavily armed. Thus by depicting them the way he did they are easily recognizable. Also, notice that there is a saguaro cactus at the upper left. Truth is, there are no saguaros on the Tex/Mex border. They do not grow in the Chihauhuan desert, but are prolific, and are native to the Sonoran desert.

What book or article are you reading ref. the Rurales? You've got me interested now!
