Good afternoon all,

I mainly paint my figures in acrylic (Vallejo & Andrea) and am thinking of painting a Hornet World War 2 Russian Cossack next.

My question is - does anybody out there have a decent acrylic mix to achieve this colour. Khaki is such a subjective colour with many intrepretations but perhaps somebody could throw some light and a painting mix for this colour.

I noted that Andrea have a colour named 'Russian Khaki' - would this make a suitable base colour?

Looking forward to any input etc.

Hi Franco, I'm not familiar with the Andrea paint but I'd advise mixing this up by eye, both to make it suit your references but also your taste. Each modeller can have a slightly different take on the same colour and after highlighting and shading the same midtone can be made to look quite different anyway.

Whatever you do don't mix the colour like I did when I repainted this figure a few yeas ago, I got the colour completely wrong; I had in mind post-war Russian uniforms, not a khaki, so it's far too green

Thank you

Hi Einion

Thanks for your input. I checked out the references last night and you are right it does have a greenish tint to the khaki colour. I will just need to keep that colour under control when I mix it.

I will give it a try this weekend by eye and see how I go.

Ciao
