Sad news from Sarum Soldiers

Just received a newsletter from Sarum Soldiers' owner, Patrick Willis. They are going to stop trading when they sell out their existing stocks. They're offering 20% discounts on orders of six or more foot figures and/or three or more mounted figures.
Remember Sarum, besides their toy soldier range, produces most of the ex-Chota Sahib figures sculpted by the late Sid Horton.

Furthermore, they inform the company will be offered for sale from July 2007, Sid Horton's masters included.

It's always sad to see such a long running company come to a stop. I just hope those Chota Sahib masters are not lost forever.

Sad indeed, these are some beautiful figures, covering Victorian & Edwardian British soldiers, which nobody does.

Yes, it is sad.
I just hope, that somebody buys the Chota Sahib masters and moulds who keeps producing them. I'm kind of sentimental about them, because I started with tin figures about the same time they were first released.

Sarum down

Are there any US retailers for Sarum? They never seem to have been readily available. Their web site is already down.

Chota Sahib figures were and are excellent. I'm glad I have a few. FYI Nemrod still produces the Chota Sahib French Foreign Legion figs altho I think in resin. Outstanding pieces.

Vergilius -- my favorites list has over 57 military miniature manufacturers and seems to grow monthly. The selections for a miniaturist are far, far greater than they were back in the 70's and 80's when Chota Sahib was top o' the line, and back then there was Military Modeller Mag and...uh, that was about it -- no internet, no forums, no communication with like minded souls unless you belonged to a rare club. The miniatures world has grown hugely from the olde days back when I had to walk 50 miles thru the snow just to find one of them little lead soldiers (just kidding).
