Sculpted by Sergey Lupenov
Painted by Ruslan Vorobiev

Samnite 01.jpg

In Review 401 we review the 2nd of 3 figures sent by Tartar Miniatures. Another excellent sculpted and casted kit sculpted by the talented Russian sculpter, Sergey Lupenov. I am quite empressed by the figures coming from Tartar as they are showing excellent quality and casting in a popular range of 75mm.

As in the first kit I reviewed this kit also comes in a medium cardboard box with the parts sandwiched between foam and the small parts sealed into a bag to ensure against loss during shipping.

The kit consists of 8 white metal parts cast in white metal.

Excellent revieuw.
The pictures are sharp and we all can see the seamless parts.
Great, up to the next revieuw. It give's us all a great library from the "latest" figures and how they look, cast and fit.

I was contacted by Sergey for a "counseling" appear on the Tartar "Samnite".
Meanwhile congratulations to the newly formed company that, apart from the Cossack, offers a very interesting topic for me, the world 's pre-Roman Italy (hopefully with other players).
Thank you Sergey for the nice words, but in fact, are just a mere student of ancient history
As mentioned in other interventions, will never speak of sculpture and painting of the subject but will speak only the appearance uniformology.
Very good figure in general, is well made and also the drapery of the tunic and equipment, especially the pectoral trefoil and shield (excellent idea of the elliptical model popular pieces like the round Argives shields); about shoes I have some doubts - best barefoot with greaves - and the sheath and sword, from box-art photo, are undoubtedly some big.
Well-done 's helmet, with some doubts about protome of prey, but perhaps the sculptor drew upon sources of knowledge not mine.
But considering that the Tartar had just entered the world of modeling and that many companies emblazoned with large staff of researchers often fall into uniformology obvious mistakes, I think we can forgive these little mistakes. Two suggestions for the future at Sergey: one, do not trust the outright reconstruction drawings, often untrue, this is a lot of documentation - real - available and always tries to work with it .
Two, keep in check the desire of authors to "customize" those with sculptural and painterly virtuosity of imagination often makes those who want to characterize them according to taste inventing or mixing elements taken here and there, but according to realize the sketches real sources is an absolute guarantee of veracity and reliability, with an excellent image for your company.
Wishes for you and the Tartar
