You are right,i bought this figure many years ago from Authorsculpt and it‘s really a masterpiece

A remarkable sculpt and as far as my knowledge allows me to say, historically accurate.Definitely a prized posession for all samurai admirers. The fact that it is being re-released by one of the most stand up and decent guys on the market right now,Sergey Savenkov ,is definitely a bonus for me.

No o-yoroi for ages, then two come at once :D

(at least this one's unpainted)

Looks fantastic: I like the way the sode's laminate boards fall away on their laces. There's a painted one of AuthorSculpt's original release here (perhaps more could have been made of the lacing):

No doubt Yellowcat will have his own thoughts (y) ,but for what it's worth...

It's a great model but I must admit that to my mind the do looks a bit too streamlined for an o yoroi (they were boxy and sat on the hips) and the rear agemakii bow/cords (used to hold the sode in place) will need a little extra detailing.

Plus some useful refs for the chest's stencilled leather to stop the string catching on the laminar scales (tsurubashiri: lit. running bow string) here:

Anthony Bryant's Online Manual for re constructors is great for understanding how Japanese armour was constructed:

Towcester based Davis Thatcher must be the UK's only full-time Japanese armour restorer and a great reference: https://yoroi.uk/ and https://www.facebook.com/groups/Samuraiarmour/

As are dealers' sites such as Daimyou Ltd: https://daimyou-armor.com/item.html

... and of course, Yellowcat's many contributions and resources :)

Fabulous sculpt for a 60 mm Samurai figure kit.

Thank you for posting my PF Samurai references links.

Good sculpt for this size but it really doesn't excite me much. A bit stiff. And the Samurai commander in it's sitting position with the erect naginata is not very convincing. The Poste Militaire and Seil 90mm commanders came before and are in a better fitting size of 90mm.

Certainly agree with you about PM's Kato Kiyomasa figure which I believe was based on a statue in the Myogyo-ji Temple at Nagoya.
For me this one although sort of similar is still highly desirable (if only as a companion to Authorsculpt's earlier mounted samurai.)

Absolutely right in your believe, 'Fogie'! Ray Lamb's iconic seated Katô Kiyomasa stands at Myogo-ji or rather is seated there.:)
The Seil one is a very nice kit too in his niô-dô
This offering is too small for my old eyes to do justice, but I think it's a nice formal pose if a tad stiff.
As there are a lot of daimyo statues in Japanese parks and temple gardens begging to be reproduced as figures, don't let me stop you gentlemen!

cheers,

Pierre

I firmly believe the PM figure is based on this scroll painting.

Probably on both Felix, e.g. the jinbaori. As one of the Seven Spears of Shizugatake and a tiger hunter, the figure adds it all up nicely for our pleasure.

cheers,

Pierre
