I like your finish, for your color and your application. One thing that catches my eye is the position of his right hand, though, and this lies on the kit. I think his hand should be cocked more with his thumb to the wrist, which would give the sword a slightly more horizontal angle, but also one that would look more natural. But as I said, I think that's the way the piece is sculpted, isn't it? The two straps dangling from his obi might also stand a little prouder as they lie across the folds of his kimono, too, rather than following those contours.

I like how you've highlighted his expression, too.

Thanks for showing us your finished piece!

Prost!

I'm sure you're right about the position of his hands. I tried to use reference photos for painting it but I was stuck with the casting as it was, sometimes a bit fuzzy in detail. First Samurai I've ever painted. I have two more - by Little Generals and Ceremonial Studios waiting but they are very different. I had some of the Poste Militaire figures at one point but, although superbly sculpted, they were very stiff.

The thing I like best about this kit is the vitality and character in the stance and the face - it reminds me of Mifune in 'Red Sun' where his way of moving in battle, knees bent and body centered, contrasts with the western actors. I wonder if it was that film that inspired the sculptor or one of the many Kurosawa movies.
