Hi Folks,
A little while ago I was lucky enough to be able to buy three un-started (still in box) figures for an incredibly low price.
One of them was a 90mm Barton Miniatures Saxon (white metal), which I was aware had existed, but had never seen a photo of one.
I’ve made a start at cleaning up the mould lines and fixing of pins for the various parts.
Here’s a photo of the various bits and the instructions that came with the kit.

Compared to modern resin figures it’s not as detailed, but I’m a ‘dinosaur’ and like the old figures that I couldn’t justify the expense in my earlier days.
I’ve glued the shield arm to the shield and fixed the pouch in place, and attempted a loose fit to see how he’s going to look (the pencil is simply there to keep the shield arm from rotating).

I’ll be able to apply the recently posted detailing of jacks and their light colour in the recesses to this one, once I get round to painting.
Now it’s back to checking for mould lines that I haven’t completely removed, and preparing the terrain on which he will stand.

Cheers,
Andrew

P.S. The other two figures that I got with this one were the 70mm Poste Militaire Conquistador and Galloglass (both white metal).

I'm a Dinosaur too Arj and I love the ol'Masters' work. This one's beautiful.I would very much like to see what you do with it.

Pleased you like him Oda.
It's going to be a while yet before it meets the primer.

Got him matched to the base and created the texture with an old mix (the contents of which I've long since forgotten).

Since then I've moved forward a little.
Face is still wet oils and rest is awaiting further paint.
Made a start on painting the base. Painted with Humbrol dark earth, washed with burnt umber oil, dry-brushed with yellow ochre, and stones/pebbles painted with various Humbrol stone colours.

Well, it’s been the usual two steps forward and three back.
I decided that the jack was too yellow, so re-painted with a much lighter mix, intending to stain it darker for a well-used look.
I then spent the next week waiting for the paint to dry. I think I’m just about there now.
Prior to the above I’d painted the leggings with enamel and stained them with oil; and managed to get one of them lined, ready for weathering. I can now get on the other one.
During the waiting period, I got on with the shield. Lots more work required here.
The white strip on the tunic sleeve is the undercoat for the lacing. (I’ve come across some Saxon patterns, and will try one of the easier ones). This will be repeated on the other sleeve and around the base of the tunic.
The helmet is just about finished, and I’m working on the axe.

It’s been a little while since I last posted on this.
That’s been mainly down to there being very little to show on a regular basis. Bits of weathering and some detailing did not appear to lend itself to an interesting S.B.S.
The weathering of the quilting has been done with a dry-brushing of sepia (oil) over the light coloured surface, with a bit of finger-smudging thrown in. This took place over a number of days, until I thought it looked about right.
While I had achieved a reasonable surface weathering, the seams appeared much too stark.
A few streaks of sepia toned this down to a suitable level. Needless to say, how suitable this all looks, will be down to individual tastes.
This is a compilation of the boring bits.

The other items (base, helmet, right hand with axe, scabbard and left arm with shield are more or less complete, with some minor detailing still to be done.

Once it’s all ‘clagged’ together, I’ll post a ‘completed’ version.

Cheers
Andrew
