So here is what I was thinking . I am gonna put up a sbs on my first real bust and tell the steps I am taking along the way . What I would hope is that people would contribute what I am doing right or wrong I have a color scheme in mind already and would like to hear other's tell me what they would have done different idea's or the same . Does anyone think this would be useful to other new guys as well ? Tell me what you think . Ok so below you can see what it looked like about a year ago when I first had a crack at her . And in the current primer . This should have been done earlier but I have to paint when I can So this time around I am going for her being in a warmer climate . Leather top , not sure about the hair and a sun toned skin . Taking other suggestions I have primed with Vallejo paint black first then gray and white from the top ( I think ) will be asking that question next LOL . Was first scared to get into the Vallejo line but with a little trial and era got the primer on . And am liking the line of paint a lot more as I get used to using it . image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg So I think the next step will be gray from the top can anyone tell me the direction of the next coat ? And after that follow up with white . Again from what direction ? Thanks al I am also hoping that the people who use oils will also chime in here . I remember playing with them about a year or so ago and felt that might also be the way to go . Damn now I have to find the oil paints I had LOL

I'd suggest spraying the grey and white primers from the same direction Samson, with the extent of the white smaller than that of the grey.
Nice try at directional lighting. Good luck.

Hi Sam....try not to make the undercoat stage too technical for yourself....or you will get bogged down and lose your enthusiasm again ;)
If I may suggest....there is a simpler way to get the effect you are after with the undercoat....
First (base) black....wait five minutes then mist it with white....because the black is not dry the white will 'bleed' into it giving you the grey.....
Wait a further 45 minutes.....then apply the white again for the final hi's....leave to dry for 24 hours....if needed you can then apply a further mist of white from your chosen angle....
Check this for a better idea of the above........http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/im-back-scale-75-abyssal-warlord.63999/

You'll want the grey then white step from the same direction but think of it like a cone with the mini at its point.20160613_153909.jpg
Hope that gives the idea.

Myself, I go from black straight to white but I more dust gradually and build it closer to white where I want the light hitting more. Think pft pft pft rather than spray. Usually I'll work like a cone from about 45° above the more pfts from my chosen direction if I want a more directional look than zenithal.

Zenithal (from above)

Slight directional (some from above all round. Heavier from front, above right)

Ok all I think I got it . Thanks all for the info and for contributing to the post . We will soon see where it is going . I hope to get the rest of the primer on tonight . Will put up pics when done .thanks again . Thanks for the help pics and link . Good stuff.

Ok got both the gray and white primer on . Please let me know what you think.image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Ok if what I have going is okey . I am going to paint the piece as if she is from somewhere warm .leather top sun tan skin not sure about the hair . Now here is where everybody else comes in . Let's hear your idea's of what you would have done with it .

I'd say work on the skin and leather then decide on the hair colour later. One thing I will say is as it looks like you're having the light from slightly to the right is keep an eye on where light will catch and throw shadows. Maybe even paint her eyes to be looking more in that direction too.

Ok so tomorrow' I will be out of it because of a pain block shot . Should be back at this I hope by sat and will post pics as I go . Once again thanks for the info
